Basketball Shooting Tips and Drills

There is no one perfect way to shoot a basketball. Look at professional players in leagues around the world, you will find a variety of different shooting forms. All are successful and work for each player.

There is only one single way to become a good shooter: PRACTICE and REPETITION. Repetition trains your muscles by doing the same movement over and over. This is called "muscle memory." By practicing your shot over and over, you will become a better shooter.

There is a catch though. You must practice your shot at game speed, not quarter speed. If you are shooting with a partner and taking your sweet time to shoot after you receive each pass, you are doing yourself no good. This trains your muscles in a bad way. It will not help you when you have to get off your shot in a hurry when a defender is running at you in a game.

Instead, shoot each shot the same way you would in a game. It might make you more tired by shooting this way, but that is ok. It will help you to shoot better in a game when you are tired. Check out a few of the shooting tips and drills below...
